New Internz

24 AUT graduates have been selected by international companies including TimeZoneOne, Play Rugby USA, and Smithsonian to be international interns in 2020.

Leigh Manihera who will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts is heading to London to work at recruitment agency Anderson Quigley as a Research Consultant Assistant.

Leigh said the opportunity almost felt too good to be true. “When Chelsie called me and told me that they’d selected me I had to ask her so many times if she was sure!”

She is excited about the opportunity to learn anything and everything she can through her placement. “I never in a million years would have thought that I would be offered this internship. Without Internz I wouldn’t be here. They really helped me with everything, from cover letters to resumes,” Leigh said.

Leigh and her fellow graduates were selected by AUT's Internz programme, an on-campus recruitment service offered by the University.

As well as placing students and graduates in a variety of paid roles in New Zealand, Internz provides opportunities for final year students to embark on paid internships overseas.

With support from AUT for flights, insurance, visas and a stipend, this group of graduates get the chance to put their learning into action in a different market.

This year’s recipients made it through the fiercely competitive process to receive their scholarships, chosen from over 400 applications.

2020 sees the introduction of the first host offering an engineering role at Babcock, adding to the mix of roles from areas such as business, arts, communications, sport and recreation, design, and hospitality.

Destinations in 2020 include New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C, Plymouth, London, Vancouver and Singapore. For the first time, the UK is a destination, with three 2020 hosts.

This is the 7th year Internz has offered international scholarships, with almost 150 recipients since the start.

International applications are open to students with New Zealand citizenship, who have studied full time with AUT and are in the final year of their degree.
