Niue Language Week 2022

Episode 8 of AUT’s 2022 Pacific Language Week Video series – AUT Focus on Sustainability – was launched this week.

The short animated video draws attention to research by AUT’s New Zealand Tourism Research Institute — the Pacific Tourism Data Initiative — which is designed to increase evidence-based tourism decision making in the Pacific with a view to strengthening sustainable development outcomes.

Funded by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the research helps local businesses and communities enhance visitor satisfaction and increases links between tourism and the local economy.

“We’re helping understand who travels to the Niue and what their experiences and impacts are,” says AUT Professor of Tourism Simon Milne.

“The more we understand tourist behaviour, the more successful we can be with developing future sustainable tourism initiatives and programmes that truly benefit the host communities.”

The video is narrated in Niuean (with English subtitles) to acknowledge Niue Language Week being celebrated in Aotearoa from 16 to 22 October.
