COLAB’s Senior Lecturer Sangeeta Karmokar is a nominee in this year’s Women of Influence awards.

The awards run by Fairfax Media and Westpac aim to uncover women who have committed time and energy to help and encourage other women in their industry, and who are fighting for change every day.

Dr Karmokar is a nominee in the Innovation category. Seven other women, mainly from other universities, are her competition.

Working in CoLab Dr. Karmokar stimulates new forms of cross-disciplinary collaboration at AUT. She’s also helped with external engagement with industry and community partners on how to explore new opportunities, business models and career structures that are emerging from the acceleration of the global digital economy.

Her research now focuses on establishing a futures-focused, multi-scale platform for working with national and international research partners, industry bodies, community groups and key public/civic institutions. Her focus is also on merging design and creativity to assist business strategies including merchandising and branding. Dr Karmokar says being a finalist has provided more energy to continue this passion.

“Being in the finals made me stronger and provided energy to believe in my passion.”

Dr Karmokar also teaches in Communication Design, Business (Design Major) and Business Information Systems.

The winner will be announced at a dinner on November 4.
