AUT ranked #1 in NZ for health subjects

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject places AUT 92 in the world and first in New Zealand for its clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects.

It's the first time that AUT has featured in the top 100 in THE's subject rankings for clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects. Up from last year's 101-125 banding when the University was equal second in New Zealand, the rise is attributed to a high score for research impact.

In THE's life sciences subject ranking, which includes biology, agriculture/forestry, sport science and veterinary science, AUT maintains last year's 301-400 position. AUT also features for the first time in the subject ranking for psychology at 301-400.

To determine its rankings, THE judges world-class universities across all of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook using 13 performance indicators.

Today's rankings build on the University's strong performance in global university rankings this year. The prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released their Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments placing AUT number one for sports science in New Zealand and 46 in the world.

In September, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 placed AUT in the 301-350 band, up from last year's 401-450 ranking, which means AUT is now the third highest ranked university in New Zealand.
