AUT hosts 10th CS4HS conference

More than 100 secondary school teachers from across Aotearoa gathered at AUT’s City Campus for the 10th Computer Science for High Schools (CS4HS) conference.

Aimed at supporting the teaching of digital technologies and STEM subjects in new, exciting and creative ways, the conference took place on 24 and 25 November at AUT’s City Campus and was organised by Senior Lecturer at AUT’s School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, Dr Mahsa Mohaghegh.

“Our secondary school teachers - the ones we place in charge of imparting skills to our next generation - are such valuable members of our communities,” Dr Mohaghegh said.

She described the conference as being a “full-on, tightly packed two days, with amazing keynote speakers and workshops - including a visit to Google offices in Auckland.”

In a speech to open the event, Head of the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Aman Oo, said AUT was committed to working with schools and communities to encourage more people into the fields of computer science and technology.

“We need more computer scientists and technologists, not only here in Aotearoa, but also throughout the IT sector globally.

“Together with your support, we can inspire young minds to consider an exciting future in technology and computing,” Professor Oo said.

“All of you play a critical role in promoting and teaching a digital technology curriculum.”
