AUT cleans up at Best Design Awards
The Waihou Jacket by AUT Fashion Design student Kimberley Ruwhiu

AUT has had its most successful Best Awards night yet.

The Best Awards are the country’s top Design awards and were held in Auckland on Friday 14th October.

AUT got at least one Gold (the top award) in each category and Communication Design had its strongest ever result.

AUT Communication Design students won four golds in the Graphic Design category (out of the six awarded): Alex Turner (currently doing Honours), Alistair McCready (who won two Golds and is also currently in Honours), and Kate McGuiness (currently working in Wellington).

They also won five of the fourteen Graphic Design Silvers: Milly Scott, Alistair McCready (again), Hugo Christian-Slane, Rob Lewis (doing Honours) and Eden Short (Masters project for DHW lab).

Spatial Design won a gold award and Benjamin Bray from Colab won a gold in Interactive category, and Fleur Palmer won a gold in the Nga Aho category.

Antonio Wan and Kimberly Ruwhui won two golds in Product Design.

Antonio’s product was a baby bath he designed at AUT’s Design Health and Wellbeing Lab at Auckland Hospital. Kimberly, a fashion student, designed a jacket for the farming community.
