Master of Engineering student O'Neil Nelson's impressive work has been recognised at two awards for educational excellence in Jamaica and New York.

O'Neil was announced first place winner of the Jamaica JTCE Educator of the Year Award and was bestowed the accolade at a ceremony in December last year. The citation spoke to his educational excellence, outstanding leadership and innovative and transformational work in the field of education.

In February O'Neil also received a John and Suzanne Roueche Excellence Award at a ceremony in New York. The Roueche Awards recognise excellence in community college teaching and leadership and celebrate outstanding contribution by community college faculty and staff.

O'Neil is from Jamaica and was the recipient of an NZAID scholarship administered by New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He completed his thesis at AUT's School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences and is due to graduate this semester.
