Our Orientation and Student Communications team was also Highly Commended in The UniBank Award for Excellence in Marketing Communication and Public Relations.

The ATEM Best Practice Awards recognise excellence in Tertiary Education Management, as well as outstanding contributions to advancing the professionalism of tertiary education administration and management.

Wiremu Tipuna accepted the award on behalf of the Māori Liaison Services team and spoke of the transformational impact the work of the team helps deliver to students.

The Excellence in Marketing Communication and Public Relations Award was accepted by Paige Taniora-Brockelsby, AUT Orientation Manager. The award recognised the extraordinary effort that AUT involved in welcoming new students to the University and the comprehensive support and transition programme in place to ensure students are thoroughly prepared for their studies.

AUT Group Director Student Services and Administration, Joanna Scarbrough, in the audience to celebrate the achievements of her Division was surprised by ATEM President Michele Jordan-Tong with an award of her own.

The prestigious President's Award is nominated by ATEM's sitting President and is awarded to deserving tertiary education management practitioners from across the sector.

Joanna became just the 15th recipient since the award began in 1996 in recognition of her long-standing support for the profession and outstanding leadership demonstrated over more than 25 years of service to the students of AUT.

The Awards are held in conjunction with the Tertiary Education Management Conference currently taking place in Adelaide. The conference brings together around 800 professional managers from higher education and TAFE institutes, Polytechnics, Wānanga, government departments, private providers and similar organisations across Australia and New Zealand.
