Māori media grad lands US internship

AUT Bachelor of Māori Development alumna Matilda Poasa was selected from more than 250 applicants to intern at the Sundance Institute in Los Angeles.

The internship is an opportunity to give Native Americans a voice in the Sundance Film Festival. She received this internship thanks to the Internz International Scholarships Programme, which provides AUT graduates with valuable international experience.

Matilda will be working on the Native American and Indigenous Film Program, which helped Thor director Taika Waititi in his early years.

Matilda, of Samoan descent, hopes to give a voice to minorities in mainstream media. Her internship helps her achieve this.

"I'd like to bring my world view and learn about theirs. As a Samoan who has just finished a degree and being an 'honorary Māori', a Māori by association, that's another world view that I can bring,” Matilda says.
