Doctoral student’s research recognised

Doctor of Education candidate Jacoba Matapo has been awarded the 2018 Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia (PESA) Doctoral Scholarship for her research exploring Pasifika leadership in Higher Education.

Jacoba’s research looks at how cultural knowledge opens to relations of change in the context of human and material within Pasifika leadership, something she sees as an integral part of her professional practice and personal ethos.

“I have always envisioned my role in education as a calling and throughout my personal and professional journey I have come to understand that E lē falala fua le niu, 'ae falala ona o le matagi - the coconut tree does not sway on its own but is swayed by the wind.”

PESA offers up to two $AU10,000 scholarships each year to encourage doctoral students to engage with philosophical issues in education.
