AUT grad named international finalist
Imuy Teav's Gentle Man collection

AUT Fashion Design graduate Imuy Teav is one of the finalists for the 2020 iD International Emerging Designer Awards.

She is one of the 33 finalists selected out of 150 applications. Her entry, ‘Gentle Man’ explores the redefining of masculinity in society through menswear. The collection offers an alternative toned-down sense of contemporary masculinity by integrating elements of Victorian female and male dress, with a focus on 1800s female corsetry and male workwear.

Teav says she is very honoured to be one of the finalists among all the talented designers that applied for the show.

For Teav, fashion is a vehicle to express her creativity. “There is definitely a positive change in menswear over the past 10 years, either on a runway or on the streets. Men have become more aware and open to expressing themselves, and wear clothes that push the boundaries of men's fashion,” she says.

Imuy Teav recently completed her honours in fashion. She currently teaches part-time at AUT and is working on a start-up fashion label in Cambodia, her home town.

The iD International Emerging Designer Awards is the only emerging designer show in the world that accepts entries from recent fashion graduates. This year, the final show will be moved online due to Covid-19.
